Classical Soul, Scientific Mind

Liceo Misasi is above all a high school, a school of reason that favours the maturing of the student's personality through the learning of a method and the encounter with the cultural tradition made alive by the mediation of our highly selected teachers .
It is a "high school" for the humanistic dimension of knowledge; it is "scientific" for the study method; it is "international" for the quality of English teaching.
Liceo Misasi offers a traditional scientific curriculum with the addition of disciplines that characterize from the first year: logic, bioethics, political economy, general culture, Greek language and culture (optional);
a single two - year period, marked by gradual and progressive objectives, which allow to consolidate the learning of the lower secondary school and to evolve towards new skills ; a connection, as, indeed, better than once, between the lower secondary school and the high school;
three years to be aware of the choice at the right age , then to refine the training in the sector of interest.

The Pluses of Misasi

For the annual school fee, Liceo Misasi is naturally the privilege of only a few. But the advantages of attending it are obvious:

1. A unitary curriculum, from upper secondary to upper secondary high school, maximizes the skills of the professionals who work in the different grades of the school, asking them to work together with flexibility and mutual curiosity, imagining a path for the students that take account of the real wealth of skills that gradually go on to acquire, between elements of continuity and necessary discontinuity. A unitary curriculum is an opportunity for the teaching staff to renew reflection on didactic choices, on the need to establish coherence between daily practices and ministerial indications; it is a contamination of didactic methods up to now exclusively belonging to one or the other school grade. A unitary curriculum inevitably becomes an added value certainly for those coming from the Misasi media but also for the new student since both would benefit from a unique professionalism in the method .

2. Discretion in selecting the teaching staff . Promoters of innovation or custodians of best practices and knowledge to be handed down to the new generations, the teachers of  Liceo Misasi are chosen , by qualifications, by experience and competence, among new retirees and young professionals who converge in a group that is anything but precarious and necessarily meritocratic.

3. Small class sizes (maximum 16 pupils) and competent and qualified teachers ensure that students can get the most out of the program they are following. Each student is followed and more solicited by the teacher and has more opportunities to interact with him or her and the teacher on the other hand has constant feedback, so the training action is more effective and efficient.

The program inevitably progresses faster.

4. Flexibility is the great added value of the private system compared to the public one: personalized courses able to enhance the uniqueness of the students, allowing them to express their talent more freely; study support programs from the first year of the course; orientation programs , from the second year of the course; experiences of constant relationships with the local, national and international territory.

The Didactic Coordinator

In the logic of school autonomy which also extends to non-state schools, the responsibility of a Coordinator of educational and didactic activities is distinct from the responsibility of management which belongs to the Regent and the Manager.
Didactic coordination and management involve distinct responsibilities. The Coordinator of educational and didactic activities in private schools is designated by the Regent in his own responsibility, taking care to make use of personnel who have adequate didactic-pedagogical qualifications. >>

Excellence at work

The value of an equal school lies first of all in the "risk" that adults freely take to "teach" by putting their freedom, their ideals, their professionalism at stake. The head teacher of an equal school has the great privilege of being able to choose his teachers , a factor of enormous importance to create a school that lives a real unity of purpose, in which cultural, educational, didactic and methodological objectives are shared. This aspect of the "offer" and in the "training offer" is already an undeniable added value.

R. Misasi ensures a prestigious teaching staff coming from the state middle school, from state high schools and from professional experiences that have catalyzed enrollments and successes in the schools where they served.
Alongside them are brilliant and motivated professionals: native speakers, engineers, biologists, musicians, artists ...

ORDINARY CURRICULAR PLAN + UPGRADES

ORDINARY CURRICULAR PLAN AND UPGRADES
Short week (Saturday free) and one day a week afternoon lessons  from the first to the fifth year.

On the basis of autonomy (note prot. 721 of 22 June 2006 and Ministerial Decree 47 of 13 June 2006), our school modifies the annual number of hours of teaching subjects (subjects) for a share equal to 20% in the first two years and in the last year and 30% in the second two years. This fee allows the school to compensate between teaching disciplines (fewer hours in a discipline that are assigned to another discipline) or the introduction of a new subject .
Given the above, all the curves proposed in the Liceo Misasi, with the exception of the Classical one, see the number of hours of Latin reduced in the three-year period - preserving it in the two-year period, because it is functional to Italian and to the development of reasoning and logic. While in the three-year period, proposing it in just enough hours, to enhance our cultural roots.
The reduction of the number of hours of Latin will be to the advantage of the subjects characterizing the course (Scientific English and Spanish, in the International ; Natural Sciences in the Biomedical curvature; Law and Economics in the Legal / Economic one.
All the curves always retain an orientative character. It is always possible that is to pass from one to another curvature or to attend the traditional study plan.

Statute of students and Liceo Misasi students

The student act is a real legislative text that contains the main rights of all children who attend Italian secondary school. The importance of the act is of absolute importance, taking into account the fact that, being a text approved by the State, it prevails over any internal regulation by the school.
The act of students contains rights and duties: a law, therefore, which not only grants, but also requires pupils to maintain certain behaviors.

School School Calendar

The Liceo MISASI observes the School Calendar in force in the Calabria Region.

Three-year plan of the training offer

The Three-Year Plan of the Educational Offer is the fundamental constitutive document of the cultural and planning specificity of the school institutions and explicitly the curricular, extracurricular, educational and organizational planning that the single Schools adopt within their autonomy "(pursuant to art. 3 of Presidential Decree no. 275/1999 and of article 14 of the Reform Law no. 107/2015). The drafting and adoption of the Three-Year Training Offer Plan (PTOF) does not only represent the moment through which the institution declares its identity externally but, making use of the project choices of previous years, these actions serve above all to consolidate the paths already tested and considered positive and start, on the basis of concrete and measurable elements for improvement, those activities aimed at the promotion and enhancement of human, professional and structural resources to ensure the educational success of all students: The PTOF is also a public act and of external relevance, which binds all the operators of the School to commit to its realization in a collaborative and co-responsibility perspective that involves all the actors of the growth and development path of male and female students. The present draft of the three-year plan represents an absolute novelty for the “R. Misasi” School as it concerns the expansion of the educational offer of the school itself through the institution, for the first time, of the Liceo Scientifico.
This moment also represents the completion of an intense training activity carried out over the years in the lower secondary school segment and arises from the need to ensure our students and all students an educational offer of the highest quality. The PTOF of the "R. Misasi" Institute reflects, in fact, the needs of the cultural, social and economic context of the local reality, taking into account the territorial planning of the training offer and meets the numerous requests of a school and family reference audience. that, over the years and in the light of the excellent results achieved in terms of learning outcomes by our students,

Study plan

The proposed study plan is suitable for facing an increasingly complex reality, for which an articulated humanistic and scientific approach is necessary which, in the distinction of Logic and Mathematics, as well as  History of Art and Technical Design in two distinct subjects, in the introduction of bioethics, general culture and political economy as an alternative to religion; of Greek Language and Culture as an optional discipline, finds its full implementation.

Both in the two-year and in the three-year period, some lessons or an entire non-foreign language discipline (Geography, for example), will in any case be held in English, both through the collaboration of the mother tongue teacher and through Italian teachers with a CLIL diploma.

The three-year Study Plan, in addition to presenting the subjects traditionally envisaged for the Liceo Scientifico, although remodeled in their number of hours, is designed to offer students four different areas of study , through which to verify future expectations and prepare, in a way aware, to the university choice and to the entrance tests of the single faculties . The three areas of election, for which, during the second year of the course, an orientation activity will be activated  :

International - Oriental Languages ;
Biomedical ;
Economic / Legal .
The fourth curvature, the Classical one, in continuity with the first two years, provides for an enhancement of Greek Languages and Culture.

CLASSIC OPTIONS

Even stronger than a Laocoon wrapped in the coils of the sea serpent, the Greek language is still alive today, not only for the almost twenty million native Hellenophones, but it remains alive because the billions of living beings who express themselves with the most diverse languages on the planet resort - too often without knowing it - to Greek words in their everyday life. It is their necessary destiny, and not "tragic", whether they nourish the "nostalgia" of the past, whether they "analyze" the "problems" of "politics", or work on "utopias" of the future, not only with “Mathematics” or “physics” - Greek disciplines for thousands of years - but also thanks to more recent "cybernetics". Effectively, if we could visualize and somehow weigh our thoughts in a more "scientific" and objective, way, we would discover that they are made for the most part of "Greek material". It is within us and nourishes us,as well as   "nutrients"(carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins) do and on which properties we are warned every day. Unlike what happened in other cultural traditions, in Italy the presence of the Greek cultural  is organic”, stratified, diversified and milenial. Inserted in the landscape, precious in libraries. Studying ancient Greek is therefore not only a linguistic exercise, an exercise in erudition, but it also means delving in the  depth of what we are. So not just a language but the vehicle of a civilization that represents us.
And our high school, although scientific, wants to contribute equally to testify of a perceived civil value as well as cognitive of the study of Greek. It does so by proposing the teaching of the Greek language and culture through a unique curriculum in the panorama of higher education.
Naturally, Latin will not undergo curtailments of its hours.

BIOMEDICAL OPTIONS

The biomedical options will not be limited to the enhancement of chemistry and biology over the three-year period but will also involve other scientific disciplines such as mathematics (which starting from the two-year period is implemented with the study of logic) and  humanities, in which programs, for example,  will pay particular attention to the study of the etymology of the technical terms of the medical-scientific language, to the authors who have dealt with biology and medicine and to scientific paradigms. During the three-year period, our students will regularly meet family doctors, specialists, technicians, head nurses, nurses, biologists and physiotherapists: a very wide range of professionals to refer to in order to be projected in the choice of their professional future.
It is important to underline that logic, together with chemistry and biology, constitutes an important part of the admission tests to the limited number faculties of the health area.
In any case, the disciplines of biomedical options will propose a learning method "in situation" and will develop skills in the scientific field, strictly connected with the territory, with Unical, with the world of work and professions, which can be used immediately in the continuation of post-diploma studies.

INTERNATIONAL OPTIONS - English, Spanish and Oriental languages and culture

In Cosenza, the reality of "Misasi Schools" have always been associated with the study of foreign languages and this tradition, which crosses all school teaching continuously, starting from lower secondary school, finds its maximum expression in the international option " Oriental language and culture ".
It is an address that is characterized by the international dimension impressed on teaching:
 it is a training course, which integrates the traditional ministerial program already strengthened by the study of a discipline completely in English "Geography" over the two-year period and by miniclil included in the normal programming of main scientific disciplines (chemistry, biology, physics…).
With the strengthening of the international option, English as the first foreign language is accompanied by the "Chinese or Japanese" language and culture (the only high school in the province) offered as a second foreign language. In the afternoon, an optional drop off will allow students to prepare for CAMBRIDGE English and / or SIELE Spanish language certifications.

ECONOMIC LEGAL OPTIONS

The Economic-Legal option allows the acquisition of that dimension of openness towards national and international problems of work, which will allow young graduates to orient themselves towards emerging university faculties first and then new markets later.
From the point of view of law and economics, students are helped to master the fundamental structures of Italian and European legislation. In Economics, in particular, the main issues of economic integration between states of the Union are addressed through the study of European institutions for understanding the contemporary world.

CHANGING CLASSROOMS

Movement of students in the Learning Spaces functional to the different disciplines. Students become itinerant but also more attentive, more prepared to listen to teachers.

The idea of itinerant classes, already successfully adopted in the Media MIsasi, has the intuition of capturing the need of children or rather to get moving, not to be tied to a desk, to a space. In this way, moreover, each teacher has a dedicated place where she can adapt the classroom according to her didactic needs.

Hands O

Thanks to  science (Biology and Chemistry) and Physics lessons of the entire high school course carried out mainly in the laboratory , the "Misasi" High School offers cutting-edge teaching: no longer theory before practice, but each topic starts from observation direct phenomena. The laboratory experience is therefore no longer an exception within a purely theoretical path, but becomes the fulcrum and objective of the path itself: students regularly live authentic "hands on" experiences, experimenting with biotechnology techniques, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology and genetics, mechanical physics, optics, thermodynamics.

They do it in the classroom and they also do it with external realities (laboratories and universities ) and while preserving the fundamental component of high school , which aims at developing a critical capacity , the experiential dimension they live, favors the increase of personality à ( we become more certain when we experiment and verify it ) and it goes towards the different forms of learning.    The objectives of collaborations with external realities (local, national and international) are many: for our teachers, the opportunity to get in touch with a less traditional teaching methodology and to grasp stimuli and ideas for teaching; for our students the opportunity to live a qualitatively significant didactic experience and in some cases to practice the foreign language at the same time.

At school and outside school

“Teaching outside  school” means using the artistic, technological and cultural heritage like a book. Touching and fully experiencing the places of cultural and artistic interest is an opportunity for enrichment and indispensable in-depth study of teaching at all school levels.
Educational outings and educational trips functional to the educational and cultural objectives will characterize the entire high school path and determine the level of socialization among students, adaptation to group life, participation in active citizenship.

GREEK language and culture

The teaching of the Greek language and culture is offered on an optional basis

- only in the two-year period (phonetics, morphology, lexicon, phraseology and anthological reading of appropriately chosen classics or of texts by other Attic or Atticist prose writers);

- only in the three-year period (organic synthesis of the history of literature, through the various eras with particular regard to the following topics and writers: The Homeric question - Hesiod - Archilochus - Alceo - Sappho - Pindar - The great tragics - Aristotle - Herodotus - The Sophistics - Thucydides
- Demosthenes - Socrates - Plato - Aristotle - Callimachus - Apollonius Rhodium - Theocritus - Menander - Polybius - Lucian - Plutarch);

- for all 5 years of upper secondary school:

Logic, Bioethics, General Culture, Political Economy

The students of  "Liceo Misasi" will study verbal logic and mathematics one hour per week over the two-year period; general culture, political economy and bioethics as alternative disciplines to religion. They will learn to practice critical thinking and reasoning on bioethical issues; they will learn to justify their positions; they will learn to argue correctly, and to distinguish between coherent moral reasoning and inconsistent moral reasoning.

Language Projects and CLIL Methods

Liceo Misasi organizes medium and long-term language exchange programs; promotes periods of study holidays. During the summer the school offers alternation school work abroad programs. In order to promote a highly educational experience among the students, in addition to the Study-Exchange programs, Miniclil are encouraged (modules on the fundamental terms of Chemistry, Biology and Geography completely in English, complete the proposal.

INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATIONS

Challenge, motivation, recognition of one's learning path in foreign languages and IT. At Liceo Misasi each student will achieve the B2 / FIRST or C1 / CAE certification within the third year of attendance and in the fourth year the I CDL FULL STANDARD and / or the ICDL CAD. And with the best hardware resources available and with the best ICT experts and BRITISH INSTITUTES native speakers of the SOLUTIO group.. In the case of high school students, it should be emphasized that, in addition to enriching their curriculum vitae, hundreds of companies and universities in Italy and abroad recognize certificates as proof of linguistic ability that can be used for access to university courses or as CFU.

Special mother tongue teachers

The Liceo hosts foreign university students every year who become special English mother tongue teachers of scientific subjects in our Liceo in the periodically scheduled Clil modules.

Assisted study in the afternoon

Given that the numbers allow the consolidation of learning mainly during school hours, so that " homework " does not subtract excessive moments of family life and free time, to prevent moments of difficulty in studying and refine the method of study , the Liceo Misasi activates assisted study afternoons in which it is possible not only to stay at school to study, but also to have a teacher available to be assisted in carrying out the tasks, receive clarification or in-depth lessons on the topics covered in class .

Access to the University

On the strength of its thirty-year experience of pre-university education, the Liceo Misasi will prepare its students for the University Tests of the disciplines pertaining to the technical-scientific sector (Medicine, Biotechnology, Engineering, Economics ...), with the best ALPHATEST teachers of the SOLUTIO group .
